In mid-October, more precisely on the 12th, the time had come, the mastermind Peter Tägtgren honored Switzerland. This time with PAIN, a side project of Tägegren, who, besides being a producer, was mainly known for his role as frontman and songwriter for the death metal band Hypocrisy. The Swedish metal band knew how to heat things up and really get the hall in Dynamo Zurich rotating!
First time, a big sorry, Folks, the contribution got stuck in the windings of the crypt and unfortunately only now sees the light of the public. Better late than never and here we go:
Tägtgren released his self-titled debut “Pain” in 1996, which he had written and experimented on alone for years. As with the project's subsequent albums, Tägtgren is solely responsible for all songs and arrangements; with a few exceptions, he plays all the instruments himself. However, Tägtgren's side project and his main band differ stylistically. PAIN's music can be described as alternative metal with electronica and techno elements, while their 1996 debut leaned towards dark metal with influences from industrial rock.
The second album “Rebirth”, released on Stockholm Records in 2000, marked the project’s commercial breakthrough. In Tägtgren's home country of Sweden, the single "End of the Line" received a gold record. The following, most popular album, “Nothing Remains the Same” (2002), attracted a lot of attention because it contained a cover version of the Beatles song “Eleanor Rigby,” which was recorded with a 16-piece orchestra in the world-famous Polar Studios (including ABBA, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and Genesis) was recorded. The album “Dancing with the Dead” was released in April 2005 and was thematically dedicated to Tägtgren’s near-death experience. In keeping with the dark mood of the lyrics, in contrast to the previous albums, almost all pop influences had disappeared and more space was given to alternative rock and metal.
Two years later, the fifth studio album “Psalms of Extinction” was released and entered the German album charts. A video clip was shot for “Zombie Slam”. After festival appearances and a club tour through Europe, a big European tour followed as the opening act for Nightwish. The sixth studio album “Cynic Paradise” was released in October 2008. Anette Olzon, singer with Nightwish, contributes vocals to the songs “Follow Me” and “Feed Us”.
PAIN played 15 songs and showed their best. With the help of video projections and the lights, the show looks a bit nasty. The industrial synth metal hits your guts. The properly filled hall goes off properly. The mood was already boiling with the supporters, no wonder, with a fat sound and stage action at its best. Bathed in sweat and with a booming head, a successful evening finally came to an end.
Here is the set list from this great evening:

Wars definitely! Hell yeah! And no, this video was one of the few from this gig to be found on Youtube, but I myself was about in the same direction, a little closer to the stage ...
