«Fear The Walking Dead» started with the 2nd season. After US viewers were able to look forward to new episodes in Robert Kirkman's post-apocalyptic world yesterday, Amazon has now followed suit and made the first episode of the second season available here, as usual free of charge for Prime members and optionally in German or English language. Whether the voluntary return to the universe overrun by hordes of bloodthirsty zombies is worth it can be answered by looking at the following teasers and trailers.
The last shot of season 1, the flight over the sea, actually promised a few episodes on the high seas. As we now see in the teaser for the second season, this will actually happen and we will experience the real danger at sea. Water is a completely new element in the world of “The Walking Dead”. Are there underwater zombies and did the government or military save themselves on large ships, as in World War Z? Are there safe islands that have successfully fought the zombies so far? Could you theoretically survive at sea by fishing? Questions upon questions!
Shooting on water is not always easy and, above all, extremely expensive. In contrast to its sister series, “Fear The Walking Dead” is looking for new ideas and locations. Of course, the walkers are a constant and growing problem on land, but on the water, Madison, Travis & Co. have to contend with something almost even more dangerous. As Victor Strand aptly puts it in the latest promo video for “Fear the Walking Dead” Season 2, it is not the undead that pose the greatest danger to life and limb: “You know what the real danger is on the high seas is? These are (other) people.” If that's the case, then the situation out on the water doesn't seem to be much more pleasant or safer than on land, where we suddenly see a lot of zombies!
Our survivors, who once seemed so naive and incompetent, have apparently understood a lot about how to deal with the shuffling figures - for example, at the end of the video we see Nick, covered in blood from head to toe, fearlessly approaching a walker! His sister Alicia also seems to have gained new self-confidence and Daniel Salazar also laments to himself: "If this is the end of the world, then it's already over now," while he loads his weapon with practiced grips and shoots down a few approaching walkers . Madison, on the other hand, seems to have an initial argument with Strand, to whom she lashes out: "You're not the one who decides who lives and who dies!", while Alicia apparently tries to save a stranger's life.
The survivors seem to be feverishly searching for an explanation for the outbreak of the apocalypse - and have already found a kind of answer: "The reasons for the outbreak couldn't be more natural. The world could no longer sustain itself, so it declared enough was enough." Later we see Travis standing behind a fence at that man's side, presumably watching the horde of walkers on the beach as he declares: "I choose survival." Smart decision! This promising promo, which makes it clear to us as old TWD fans: What was perhaps missing in season 1 in terms of walkers etc. should not be lacking in this second season - the world as we know it is increasingly dominated by the « living dead" and our survivors - no matter how naive and weak they were before - must adapt to these new dangers in order to survive themselves.
The second season of ^»Fear The Walking Dead» includes a total of 15 episodes, which will be broadcast in two blocks: The first seven episodes will start on Sunday, April 10, 2016 on AMC and one day later on Amazon Prime Instant Video. It is currently not known when the second block with episodes 8-15 will start, but given the start of "The Walking Dead" season 7 in the fall, it will probably be in July/August 2016. The challenges and problems that the location on the high seas brought with it can be seen in the following official “Making of”, which looks over the shoulders of the cast and crew while filming in the Mexican Baja Studios. «Baja Studios is home to the largest ocean set in the world and offers us all the creative resources we need for the next chapter of the Fear saga. “We couldn’t be happier,” says producer Dave Erickson.
