In the meantime I have also been able to get hold of one of the coveted invitations to Google Wave. And sorry friends, I do not (yet) have a single invitation to give away, they will obviously only be given later.
But what is Google Wave anyway? During the testing and the first wave communication attempts at least it quickly became clear to me what wave not is:
- no instant messaging service
- no mail replacement
- has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with social networking
But what is it now? Google Wave is a tool for work and project groups of all types and forms who have to work on documents together, make decisions and document certain results and processes that have led to them. A bit like a wiki, in whose article you can enter comments directly, like an electronic whiteboard and this over several levels.
What is Google Wave?
At the moment it seems nonsensical to me to use Google Wave to exchange simple messages with someone. There is e-mail for that. It seems equally nonsensical to me to chat via Google Wave, an IM client does that better. However, if you want to draft documents in a group or team in a constant flow and discuss them regardless of location, Google Wave could be extremely exciting in the future.
Because who doesn't know this from mailing lists: attachments have suddenly disappeared and as soon as the title lines have been changed incorrectly or not at all, chaos breaks out. Mailing lists are pure horror, as an alternative, Google Wave creates more than just order. It still remains to be seen whether Google Wave can actually complement and expand our digital tools, but the current possibilities make you want more.
And as is so often the case with new services, it will only become apparent over time what it can actually be used for. Because it is not uncommon for how and for what the users want to use a tool only in practical use, this is not always congruent with the original ideas ...

I am aware that the design page may not seem "serious" to many in this regard, but I will not change this to please the "mainstream". Anyone who is open to non-state-compliant information sees the content and not the packaging. I've tried enough to provide people with information over the last 2 years, but quickly noticed that it never matters how it's "packaged", but what the other person's attitude towards it is. I don't want to put honey on anyone's mouth to meet expectations in any way, so I'll keep this design because hopefully at some point I'll be able to stop making these political statements, because it's not my goal to go on like this forever
