As I have only now noticed, on November 3rd, Hans Gerhard Franciskowsky, also or mainly known as HG Francis, died at the age of 75 after a long illness. The man was best known for his radio plays and as the author of Perry Rhodan, his horror radio play series at Europa not only shaped my childhood a little, bought the parts myself with my pocket money and heard what the tape produced ...

In addition to his work with Perry Rhodan, Francis is also known as the author of many radio plays. He wrote hundreds of radio plays for the Europa label under various pseudonyms. His best-known works include The Scary Series and Commander Perkins. He not only wrote original scripts for series such as Masters of the Universe, but also worked on numerous templates for radio plays, such as The Three ???, TKKG and some episodes of The Five Friends. He wrote the first Jan Tenner episodes for Kiosk Verlag. In total, Francis wrote over 600 radio plays with a total circulation of 120 million. He received 120 gold records and six platinum records for his radio plays.
The horror series came out several times and was there too other covers on the market available. I probably had pretty much all the episodes back then, although I particularly liked the episode with the space monster, the giant ants, "Dracula's Island, Dungeon of Horrors" and the werewolf story with two old ladies. The ingenious radio play "The Island of Zombies" is of course one of my favorites and is available for you below in the crypt.
Already strange, the unknown heroes of our childhood: radio play authors. The horror series was just epic. It's a shame, a big one of us passed away. RIP HG Francis!
