Kevin Smith has always been a talented indie author who caused a sensation with small films like “Clerks” or “Chasing Amy” and toured the area with his Q&A shows several years ago. When he announced that he was retiring as a filmmaker after his last ice hockey masterpiece, “Hit Somebody,” you got the impression that he was in a final panic. “Clerks III”. “Smodcast”. “Spoilers with Kevin Smith”. TV specials with Jason Mewes followed, more seasons of “Comic Book Men,” his podcast empire continued to grow and he produced and pimped small indie filmmakers. Actually, he only wants to make one more film - whether it will be “Hit Somebody II” or “Clerks III,” whose joke budget of 6 million US dollars the Weinsteins, by the way, rejected, is not yet clear to us or to him either. In the meantime, Smith is more active than ever and is happily making films based on ideas he comes up with while stoned with his buddies on Smodcast.
In addition to “Yoga Hoser,” “Tusk” was also born in the podcast, a story about a podcaster named Wallace (Justin Long) who visits an old sailor (Michael Parks) shortly before death in order to get unique stories. But the old guy has something completely different in mind for Wallace: He wants to turn him into a walrus. Yup. The tone of the trailer is right across the board from the idea and composition of the film and Michael Parks is terrifying while we learn that Justin Long can scream with real authenticity. But that's also his job. Anyway, this looks pretty weird and interesting and you definitely wouldn't mistake it for a Kevin Smith movie if you didn't know better...
