Today at 22:55 p.m., WDR is showing a documentary that is based in part on film material that refugees recorded with their smartphones during their odysseys. The trailer alone is touching, the documentary itself could be impressive, especially since it should take a look at the worlds of experience of refugees, which so far only very few people have seen.
For many refugees, the mobile phone is an indispensable means of organizing their escape. At the same time, they use it to convey memories of what has been left behind and some also use it to document the escape stations.
Countless clips are circulating on social networks that tell not about but about fleeing to Germany, not from a safe distance, but from close proximity. The documentary #myescape has collected such escape stories: The (cell phone) videos of the refugees tell of their homeland, of their farewell, the various stages of their escape, their arrival in Germany and finally their first impressions here. The refugees comment on their film material in detailed interviews. This creates an impressive picture up close, of people who have to leave their home and set off - in search of security.
