In the 4th season “Vikings” the fans had to say goodbye to an important main character. An exit that causes a lot of grief and anger among the audience. In the 15th episode “Snake Pit”, fans have to part with an important figure in the story. Will some viewers now implement their announced boycott?

Thanks to “Game of Thrones” we are well prepared for it, even if the main characters surprisingly bless the time. And to be honest, you can't even say that it's actually a surprise in the 15th episode, "Snake Pit". The title alone reveals what the audience can expect, provided that they are familiar with the saga of Ragnar Lothbrok and know how the legendary Viking died: His eternal enemy King Aelle has him thrown into a pit of snakes in which one of the most famous warriors his sad one Ends. Anyone who knows this little fragment from history knows straight away from the title of the 15th episode “Serpent Pit”: Now is the time! Ragnar's death is here. Unfortunately, no miracle happens, the series doesn't suddenly take a different direction or ignore historical facts. Yes, Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) is really dying. The Viking, whom one may not have loved and sometimes even hated for the last four seasons of “Vikings”, receives an unworthy, tragic death.

Ragnar has finished his life and befriends King Ecbert (Linus Roache) with the thought of his own death. Maybe he has done that much earlier - after all, we've seen him try to hang himself in the last few episodes. Ragnar looks resigned. There is no longer any desire or will to rebel or flee. He only has one wish: his son Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen) should be safe and brought back to Kattegat. Due to Ivar's handicap, he does not pose a threat in the eyes of the British anyway. In a last, touching conversation between father and son, Ragnar appeals to Ivar one last time. In him he sees a worthy successor. One who will be underestimated by his enemies, but who will conquer them all. It is not the last important speech by Ragnar in this particular episode of “Vikings” Season 4. Ecbert continues to deliver Ragnar, like a dangerous animal in a cage, to King Aelle (Ivan Kaye), who has been seeking revenge for a long time. The blind coachman who brings Ragnar to Aelle knows that even now that Ragnar is trapped, the men around him are afraid and fearful of him. His reputation precedes him. Ragnar, the legend. But his downfall is bitter and can only be endured painfully for die-hard fans.

Ragnar does not die a heroic death and yet he is a hero until the last second. Aelle has the Viking mistreated and tortured by the armed soldiers. He himself torments Ragnar and even slits a cross on his forehead. And Ragnar? Like a real Viking, he endures all the pain and does not buckle. At the end, when he looks death in the eye, he speaks one last time to the Christians present who have filled a pit with snakes. He would look forward to coming to Odin's lavish table, Ragnar calls out into the world, smeared with blood. And there he will wait for his sons to tell him their glorious heroic stories. Travis Fimmel, who has played the Viking since 2013, remembers the filming of this episode with mixed feelings. He had a long discussion with “Vikings” creator Michael Hirst. “I hate talking,” reveals Travis in an interview with “Entertainment Weekly”. "It was written to be a big deal, but I didn't want him to say any of that." Hirst also remembers how Travis kept telling him, "My character doesn't make any speeches." In the end, Ragnar says goodbye to the audience with words about the dazzling Valhalla before he dies in the snake pit. The shooting of this episode was now a year ago.

Attentive fans have suspected it for a long time. The cast of the history series is active on Instagram. There are always new pictures from the filming of the 5th season. Travis Fimmel was completely absent from the snapshots. Recently there was a great fear that Clive Standens Rollo would not survive the fourth season of “Vikings” either. Because he was not only missing in pictures, but also shot an action series. Meanwhile, Clive has also reported back on the set of season 4 with an Instagram photo. With touching flashback scenes, the audience - together with Ragnar - could take a look into the past. Back when everything was different, maybe even better. Ragnar's daughter Gyda was still alive. The brothers Ragnar and Rollo were not at odds. Ragnar and Lagertha's love was undimmed. The friendship with Floki is strong. And Athelstan was still alive. Athelstan, yes, Athelstan. He continues to run himself like a thread through history shortly before Ragnar's death. For years there were discussions among the fans: does he love Lagertha or Aslaug? He definitely loved one person, maybe sometimes more than the women who often got on his nerves: Athelstan (George Bladgen). Shortly before his death, Ragnar presented the cross that he once received from his good friend and gave it to Alfred, Athelstan's son. It's another goodbye to a man who touched him deeply. Now they are united in death.

"Ragnar is dead, but Ragnar lives on," announced Michael Hirst, who, as he also reveals in an interview, has already finished work on the 16th episode of season 5. With Ragnar a legend has died and a fan favorite of the “Vikings” viewers. He lives on in his sons. Visually, Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith) is particularly reminiscent of the young Ragnar. But above all Ivar should be important for the future of the series and represent an exciting character. After losing not only his mother Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland), but also his father, he seeks revenge. His anger, which has accompanied him all his life, is now directed at King Ecbert and Aelle, as well as Ragnar's first wife Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), who murdered Aslaug. So it won't get boring in “Vikings” too quickly. On the contrary, Ragnar leaves five strong, grown sons with whom we can explore completely new corners and stories of the cruel Vikings. And in the 15th episode, a new, mysterious character has also been announced. A Viking with only one eye seems to be heading for Kattegat with his boat. Is it a friend or another enemy?

Many fans shared their impressions on Twitter, Facebook & Co while watching the 15th episode “The Snake Pit”. The mood? Mixed. The thanks for Travis Fimmel's portrayal of Ragnar can be found all over the web. While many viewers mourn the loss of Ragnar, some fans are suddenly critical of the series. “Is there still a future for 'Vikings' after the main character is dead?” Many fans ask between the lines. “Game of Thrones” has already proven that this is possible. We gathered some thoughts and opinions on the last episode.

"Dravens Tales from the Crypt" has been enchanting for over 15 years with a tasteless mixture of humor, serious journalism - for current events and unbalanced press reporting politics - and zombies, garnished with lots of art, entertainment and punk rock. Draven has turned his hobby into a popular brand that cannot be classified.

My blog was never designed to spread news, let alone get political, but with current affairs I just can't help but capture information here that is otherwise censored on all other channels. I'm aware that the design page may not seem "serious" to many in this regard, but I won't change it to please the "mainstream". Anyone who is open to non-state-compliant information sees the content and not the packaging. I've tried enough to provide people with information over the last 2 years, but quickly noticed that it never matters how it is "packaged", but what the other person's attitude towards it is. I don't want to put honey on anyone's mouth to meet expectations in any way, so I'll keep this design because hopefully at some point I'll be able to stop making these political statements, because it's not my goal to go on like this forever ;) I leave it up to everyone how they deal with it. However, you are welcome to simply copy and distribute the content, my blog has always been under the WTFPL license.

It's hard for me to describe what I'm actually doing here, DravensTales has become a culture blog, music blog, shock blog, tech blog, horror blog, fun blog, a blog about found items on the internet, internet bizarre, trash blog, art blog, water heater, zeitgeist blog over the years , Scrap blog and grab bag blog called. Everything that is right ... - and yet not. The main focus of the blog is contemporary art, in the broadest sense of the word.
