The midseason finale of "The Walking Dead" season 5 will air next Monday, after which the series will go on winter break as usual. What to expect in episode 8, the midseason finale?
In episode 7, the focus was on planning the attack on Grady Memorial Hospital, where Beth and Carol are still trapped. Rick and Daryl, Noah, Sasha and Tyreese left for Atlanta and the actual battle in the hospital will probably await us in episode 8, because if you look back on the past few years, the producers were in the habit of preparing the last episode to make the winter break particularly bloody. Whether this threatens us this year and what else we have to be prepared for in the last episode of the first half of season 5 can be summarized as follows:
Episode 8 is titled "Coda" and as we've all learned by now, the titles of each episode do have their meaning. "Coda" is first of all a word with Italian origins and can - in addition to the literal translation (snake, tail, traffic jam, tail) - have other meanings, because in music "Coda" stands for the end of a piece of music in which frequently characteristic elements of the whole work are repeated again. Let's think about Dr. Edwards, who loves listening to music at Grady Memorial Hospital, could symbolize the end of the Slabtown era or everyday hospital life. In general, "coda" can stand for something that ends or that ends something else - which in turn could mean that the life of one or more people may end in this episode. Regarding the plot in episode 8, AMC reveals: "New enemies flout rules and morals, although Rick tries to find a peaceful agreement, the enemies seem to prefer a more violent solution." It should be clear who the "new enemies" are, this will be Officer Dawn and her police colleagues from Grady Memorial Hospital. Rick's attempt at a "peaceful agreement" probably refers to the deal that Rick wants to enter into. But according to the synopsis, this plan will obviously not work out that well and therefore, for better or for worse, there will be a fight between Rick and his squad and the police officers in the hospital.
In an interview, producer Robert Kirkman revealed: "There are a lot of reasons why we decided to go back to Atlanta. I can't go into any more detail right now, but they will become clearer as the season progresses. But it was the right time […] to do some research into how it was possible for civilization to be lost in this way. The confrontation (between the people in Grady Memorial Hospital) will definitely be fundamentally different than the encounter with the Governor or Gareth. We will continue to shape these interpersonal conflicts in very interesting ways and this encounter will be no exception." Attacking Dawn and her cops at the hospital will see Rick & Co. on the offensive for the first time, hopefully using the element of surprise. "On a scale of one to ten, I'd say the midseason finale is going to be a pretty bloody affair," said Robert Kirkman. With that, we may have to say goodbye to one of the main cast, as it seems the time has come for Season 5's body count to increase. In previous years, the producers had already made their announcement true that none of the actors in this series were "safe". Robert Kirkman had already reiterated that there will be "some pretty unexpected events" in this fifth season's midseason finale as well, which is "how it's supposed to be"... And so speculation circulated that Beth and/or Carol could die in this last episode of the first half...
